HTC One Mini Release Date is Q3 2013, Claims DigiTimes

Samsung moved really quick when it came to transforming the Galaxy S4 brand into a whole range of smartphones, so the South Koreans introduced the Galaxy S4 Mini (which is, of course, a shrunken Galaxy S4 with mid range specifications), the Galaxy S4 Active (similar to the S4 flagship, but with dust and water protection), and the Galaxy S4 Zoom (which boasts an impressive 16 megapixel camera with 10x optical zoom).
Rumor has it that HTC will have a similar approach wit the One, as it was reported that the Taiwan-based phone maker will introduce a HTC One Mini (a direct competitor of the Galaxy S4 Mini) and a new model with a larger display, unofficially dubbed HTC One Max, which will aim at Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 and the recently announced Xperia Z Ultra.

Today we will be talking about the mid-ranger of the aforementioned line-up, the HTC One Mini. Taiwanese sources close to HTC, quoted by DigiTimes, claim that the HTC One Mini release date has been set for Q3 2013, synchronized with the market debut of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini rival. Apparently, a similar approach has been adopted by other Asian companies, reports indicating that both Lenovo and Hawai are planning mini variants of their flagship devices.

It seems that even Apple is considering the launch of a low-cost iPhone, with sources saying that the Cupertino-based company is readying an affordable iOS-powered smartphone with plastic case which will debut in the fall.

The rumor mill also speculates about the technical specifications of the HTC One Mini. It is believed that the upcoming HTC mid-range handset will sport a 4.3-inch display with HD resolution (most likely an LCD panel) and that it will be underpinned processor clocked at 1.4 GHz. Even though the exact model wasn’t confirmed, the tech publications are anticipating that we are talking about Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 400 chipset.

HTC One will reportedly sport 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage, while running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out of the box. There are a lot of controversies regarding the camera unit of the HTC One Mini: while some sources say it will borrow the 4 megapixel UltraPixel camera of its bigger brother, others say that it will come with an 8 megapixel sensor that lacks UltraPixel technology.

Some leaked photos have revealed that the HTC One Mini will follow the same design language of the HTC One flagship, which will make the smartphone a popular choice for the users who want a mid-range smartphone with a premium look.

If most of the above rumors are true and the HTC One Mini comes with a decent hardware platform and the looks of the original HTC One, then the yet unannounced terminal will definitely be among the overachievers of the 2013 smartphone world. Anyway, since there is no confirmation from HTC, we are advising you to take the DigiTimes reports with a pinch of salt, as the Korean publication doesn’t have a straight-up accurate record when it comes to unveiling details about unannounced smartphones.
