Micromax A210 Canvas 4 Launched at Rs. 17,999

All righty people! The wait is finally over and the much hyped and not so impressive Micromax A210 Canvas 4 has been launched today at a price tag of Rs. 17,999.
The specifications of this new flagship by Micromax are similar to that of Micromax A116 Canvas HD except for the display and cameras. The key specifications are listed below.Micromax A210 Canvas 4 Key Specifications

1.2 Ghz Cortex A7 Quad Core processor (MT6589)
13 MP rear camera with 1080p video recording and 5 MP front camera
1 GB RAM
Android 4.2.1 Jellybean out of the box
Dual SIM Support
5 inch, 1280×720, IPS Display
2000 mAh Battery
16 GB inbuilt storage expandable upto 32 GB

The hardware part seems to be pretty much same as the Canvas HD but this time the company decided to do something with their flagship phone that is being done for the first time in any Micromax device out their i.e firmware customization to make the device a special Micromax device.

Micromax has decided to do some wonderful customizations in the OS and added some software features. It seems Micromax took some hints from their direct competitor in the Indian market when they decided to incorporate the software features (*cough* Samsung *cough*).
Software features of Micromax A210 Canvas 4

Well, the hardware part has nothing special but the software part looks pretty attractive. Let us see the software features of Micromax A210 Canvas 4.
Blow to Unlock

The name is pretty funny (if you know what I mean) but it is one of the gimmicky features that the users will feel proud in showing off to others.

You will just have to Blow I mean Blow air on the screen to unlock the phone. Sounds cool? Well, then imagine doing it in the public and what you will look like while doing this.

You can alternatively just shake your Canvas 4 and this gesture will also unlock the phone. Imagine shaking the phone in public. Okay I am just kidding!

Video Pinning

Now this is what I call a useful feature. You can simply play the video and pin it in a small pop-up window (yeah just like pop up play on Samsung) on the homescreen while performing something else.
Look Away

This feature will pause a video in case you look away from it. Yes, just like what happens on Samsung phones with Smart Pause.
Peek a boo

This feature lets you preview another video without pausing the video that is playing currently.
Half in Half

You can pin the browser in half of the screen while you continue working on another app.
Ear to Ear

You can now answer and make calls just by taking your phone to your ear. Reminds of Samsung again!
Flipside

You can now make a call silent just by flipping the phone upside down. You can also activate speaker phone by keeping it upside down while you are on call.
Micromax M!Power

It is like a security hub that comes loaded on the new Canvas 4. You can use it to block your SIM card, wipe phone memory, take automated data backup and also to get a temporary handset in case your mobile is stolen.
Vertical Panorama

You can now take Vertical Panoramas with the new 13 MP camera. The camera also provides features like Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), 1080p video recording, shooting in HDR mode and it can take upto 99 pictures in burst mode.
Has Canvas 4 lived up to the hype?

Well, if you ask my personal opinion then my answer will be a straight NO. I will explain why.

Because I was expecting some more features. The specs I was expecting were like this:
MT6589T based CPU
1 GB RAM
Android 4.2.2
Corning Gorilla Glass

But maybe Micromax decided to try something they thought the users will like. With this new phone Micromax has become the first Indian OEM who have launched an Android device with their customization on it (though the features are lifted from you know who) but it’s a good start.

Now only if they decide to release the kernel source of the Android devices they have launched.
